Blessing in Bath County

The Homestead 24x20" Plein Air

The Homestead 24×20″ Plein Air

“The Homestead” was painted during the Bath County Plein Air Event. This amazing resort seems the heart of the Bath County area. My gracious host introduced me to this area and in the end purchased “The Homestead”. It was a great blessing for them to invest in the painting but even more so to spend time with a wonderful christian couple.

Cyber Art Show Exhibition!

Spring Light 6"x8"

Spring Light 6″x8″

I am pleased to announce a “cyber art exhibition”! Curator Keith Lynwood Stover runs a generous online gallery called “The Cyber Art Show, Artists Supporting Artists”.  Mr. Stover features, in his words, “great impressionist landscape works” in his website each day. Find the link below

My exhibition will be a two day feature retrospective of sorts. Running this Saturday and Sunday there are many works from years past as well as recent pieces including Best of Show and award winning paintings from the American Impressionist Society and others.

This cyber museum has an extensive archive of great artists that I would encourage anyone interested in landscape painting to spend some time perusing. The Cyber Art Show is a free resource so if you take me up on the invitation to visit please consider donating. I think this sort of generous philanthropic display does everyone good and I hope you will consider helping Mr. Stover continue this work.

God bless you,

Chad

Best of Show from Lori Putnam!

I was privileged to participate in the 3rd annual Finger Lakes Plein Air Festival last week and was honored to receive the Best of Show award from judge Lori Putnam! I always enjoy these events awards or not, but needless to say I am honored to have my work recognized in this way. The quality of work was high and it was a highlight for me to reconnect with several talented and hard working artists friends from the plein air “circuit”.

Lori Putnam presents Best of Show to Your’s Truly.

Saturday night was the gala event with judging and awards from Lori Putnam. Attendance was great with catering, live music, and a setting that was so enjoyable. Best of all, Erin and Sargent were able to attend! I want to thank Lori for the award and her thoughtful approach to the impossible task of judging high quality work. Congratulations go to  Kathie Odom and Richard Thomas who also received awards for their impressive work in addition to all the honorable mention awards. Please visit the Finger Lakes Plein Air Festival website for info on all the artists and award winners. Finally, I would like to congratulate my good artist friends John Caggiano and Kirk Larsen for the Quick Draw and Artist Choice awards respectively.

Tracks At Sunset 14″x11″ Best of Show, Finger Lakes Plein Air Festival 2014

The event was a joy and my hosts were fantastic. Canandaigua is a beautiful area which abounds in subject matter not the least of which is Sonnengberg Gardens. I participated in the inaugural event two years ago and “fell in love” with the gardens. I look forward to next year and highly recommend a visit whether you are a painter or not.

Summer Plein Air Painting

Hello everyone!

I’m back from “most” of my summer painting event travels. Easton was amazingly HOT this year with a fellow artist getting close to a heat stroke before my eyes. He was laying on the sidewalk at one point and then tried to continue painting, a real soldier. At one point I recorded and posted to Facebook 107 degrees in my car. I’m including another painting from Easton “Good Morning Easton”. This plein air painting is for sale with owners John and Maryetta Dynan in Easton at Cottage Studio & Gallery. John is originally from Utica near where I’m living… it’s a small world.

Good Morning Easton

Door County WI was an amazing place to paint. They had everything from rolling farmland to Maine-like coastal regions. Included is a painting of what I was told is a dump wagon used during the railroad era. I don’t know if that is true but it makes for a good story. Originally, that was the title I was going to use for this painting but after further thought changed it to “Seen Better Days”. I think that has a little more appeal. Good friends Al and Sue Bagdade, a couple Erin and I met on our honeymoon, from Chicago made the 4 hour drive to visit me and it was great to see them again. They are the proud new owners of Florida painting “Naples Pier Sparkle“! It was also nice to reconnect with some old painter friends and make a few new ones this year in Easton and Door County.

Finally, I have started an “official” Chad Smith Paintings page on Facebook. Please check it out and “Like” the page if you want to stay up to date with the variety of images and posts I will be making on Facebook. In addition, I’ve started using Instagram in conjunction with FB. This allows me to make quick videos of daily plein air painting trips or studio works. I invite you to “follow” me there also. I will be pursuing these social outlets with renewed vigor regularly and look forward to seeing you there!
